How we work
Every guide on this site is held to the same standard: answer first, cite the primary source, show the date it was last checked, and say plainly who wrote it and how the site is paid for.
Answer first
Each guide opens by answering the question in its title, with the specific number, form or deadline stated up front. Eligibility and next steps come before history and context. If a page cannot answer its own question in the first paragraph, it is rewritten.
Primary sources only
Every specific claim links to the statute, the Code of Federal Regulations, the VA adjudication manual, the official VA.gov page or the VA form it comes from. We do not cite other websites as authority for a rule. Our publishing system refuses to build a guide that does not carry at least one primary source.
Checked dates
Every guide shows the month it was last checked against current VA policy. The publishing system will not build a guide whose check date is more than 180 days old. When a rule changes, the guide is revised and the date is updated; when a cost-of-living adjustment or a new rate table is published, the affected guides are refreshed the same month.
Who writes the guides
Guides are researched and written by the Veteran.org editorial team and carry that byline. We are adding a VA-accredited reviewer to the team, and guides will name that person as author or reviewer once they join. We do not invent names or credentials. Until a named reviewer is in place, every guide relies on the primary-source rule above so that any reader can check our work directly.
How the site is funded
The guides are free to read. Some guides include a link to request help from an accredited representative or law firm. If you use that link and are matched with a firm, the firm may pay Veteran.org a referral fee. That relationship does not change what we publish: the editorial team writes independently of it, no firm reviews or approves a guide, and no guide recommends a specific firm. Corrections
If something on the site is wrong, send it to corrections@veteran.org with a link to the source. We read every message, correct errors promptly, and update the check date on the affected guide.
What we are not
Veteran.org is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting on behalf of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs or any other government agency. We are not a law firm, we do not provide legal representation, and we do not file claims.
